Cupuaçu

Cupuaçu is closely related to cocoa, whereby in contrast to the latter, the creamy, fibrous fruit flesh is utilized. The fruit tree originates from the undergrowth of the primary forest. Cupuacu is mainly planted by small-scale farmers. The fruits weigh 1.2 kg on average and the pulp is prepared in small factories in the vicinity of Manaus. Cupuacu is primarily consumed as fruit juice, nectar and as a favourite dessert, as well as in ice cream. Wonderful sorbets and jams may be made.
